5 ways your business can give back to the community – all year round!
Dec 28, 2024At this time of year, lots of people start wondering how they can make a difference in the world. And, as a business owner, you might be wondering how your business could do the same. You’ve built a company that’s doing well, and now you want it to be more than just making those profits. If this is sounding familiar, read on to discover some incredible ways you can give back to the community with your business - all year round!
Host a community fundraiser
A really great way to give back as a business is by hosting a community fundraiser. It doesn’t have to be complicated either! It could be something as simple as a bake sale, a trivia night or even a charity walk. Your main focus is to bring people together to help raise money for a good cause in your community. For example, if you’re a company that sells smart technology, why not donate what you’ve raised to local schools to fund new tech for the students?
Help keep people warm
If there’s one big problem that needs to be tackled, it’s keeping those that might not have anywhere to go warm, especially during the winter months. You can help in many ways here by having a donation bin for coats, blankets and scarves, and you could even help out by providing Heating For Churches from any profits or money you raise elsewhere. Not only will it make a huge difference in your community, but it will give your business a great name locally.
Offer discounts for those in need
One thing that comes to mind, especially at this time of the year, is those less fortunate than you are. It’s a sad thought that there will be people alone, cold and hungry at any time of the year, so why not offer some sort of discounts for those that might need a helping hand? For example, if you own a hair salon, you could offer free haircuts to those that are unemployed, homeless, or even students struggling to pay rent. Or, you could even introduce a “pay it forward” scheme where people can prepay for someone else’s meal that they might not be able to afford. Simple gestures like these can really make a difference to someone’s life!
Volunteer as a team
If offering financially isn’t an option for your business, then there’s always volunteering! Get your team together and volunteer as a business to do something helpful for the community. Whether it’s cleaning up a park, working in a soup kitchen or gathering supplies for schools with low funding, it will make a massive difference!
Donate profits to a good cause
Finally, sometimes giving back is as simple as donating money. If you’re in the financial position to donate a small portion of profits - even as little as 1% - you’ll be making a difference somewhere. Why not pick a cause that resonates with your company? For example, if you’re a pet store, you could donate to animal shelters to keep animals off the streets and give them a chance at finding a loving home!
